Configuration

Basics

Configuration is an iterative process as you will need to configure several different components including: Postgres, PNFS, dCache and the LCG components. We discuss each of these as necessary.

Designing Your System Layout

dCache is a large software product capable of being configured in many ways, I have configured dCache as a "Admin" node and "Pool" node on two separate computers. I recommend setting up dCache in this way when initially evaluating this system.

There are several advantages to creating the system in this way. By making the admin node responsible for all tasks not involved with data retrieval it is able to manage more simultaneous requests than would otherwise be the case. Placing the responsibility for data retrieval on the pool nodes allows the administrator to add new nodes as necessary to cope with demand.

Tips

Please node that it can take some time for the internal system to initialise and connect to the other servers.
