Attending: Brian, Dan, Duncan, Winnie, Sam, Ste, Teng, Jens (chair+mins), Matt, JohnH. We spent some time looking through the slides from the EGI workshop, because, unfortunately, we could find no one who had attended amongst our happy little flock. The slides were of course written for a more general audience and not so much for specialists, and clearly there was a fair bit of recycling of material from previous talks. The conference really suggested broader questions like - FAIR data - STFC, GridPP, CEDA, etc. are perhaps not great at these things (but see below) - Impact of cache - yes, it reduces the latency! Film at 11. Cache != buffer. - EOSC - what is the impact, if any, in the Grand Scheme of Things. - Specifically, is the CMS job splitting expected to have an impact on the storage services (through more efficient job scheduling) - probably yes, but not significantly, because the splitting is all done at the same site (AFAICT) The SRM/DPM discussion - check with MattV Sadly, i lost the precise chatlog but the links mentioned are here: https://www.re3data.org/search?query=lhc https://platform.carbonculture.net/communities/prime-ministers-office-10-downing-street/17/ http://www.ceda.ac.uk/ https://ncar.ucar.edu/what-we-offer/data-services Note the NCAR registration is *not* federated.
