Attending: Brian, Dan, Jens, Matt, Winnie, RobC, Sam, Teng, Duncan IRIS F2F collaboration meeting hosted by Astronomy Cambridge: https://indico.ph.qmul.ac.uk/indico/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=446 Sort of bag of semi-randomly collected topics: * IRIS (web) presence to itself, user communities, others? * Cambridge doing accounting across T2 and DiRAC but associated with X.509 DN * Euclid and LSST asked for login service * Accessing commercial cloud - model depends on upstairs or downstairs - several options, cf Andrew's presentation. * Asked to (re)consider gender balance. Female researchers tend to prefer "get started, you can't break it" over training courses and "driving licences" * Scitokens and credential conversion for storage/data access * Towards hyperconvergence of storage - and private networks connecting sites? * Fx Edinburgh running databases on behalf of IRIS; so database jobs need submitting to Ed. * Could alternatively look at SLURM submissions to several sites, as if it were one big cluster?! * The shared data across network is perhaps not the DEISA model (dist'd filesystem) but more like data lake (or grid!) - more suited to some access patterns (e.g. WORM) than others. * How does CVMFS access control work? other than, of course, by magic? * Seems to be xroot backend provides access control but doesn't use delegated credentials * stash cache based on CVMFS with xroot * Rucio - where's our multi-VO support?! * and support for object stores? * OpenStack as a PaaS * Kubernetes support * many people using Jupyter notebooks in the cloud * testing CEPHFS * FIM needed (currently only EGI CheckIn is available) * networking - need other sites' IP address (spaces) * Workflows with Hadoop/Spark, embedded inside user work. * How to match resources with requirements - eg bigmem machines. Maybe we need to reinvent GLUE, or ClassAds?!!? or Optane, or GPU, or FPGAs. * Need for resources matched to researchers - as usual most researchers wish to do work rather than spend time faffing around with technologies. Generally a good feeling of progress even if it's not a single coherent infrastructure. * IPv6 and dual stack req'd ab initio? * Community-site matchings - AOB There's a DPM technical meeting (UK) this Friday (12th) looking at future roadmap for DPM in GridPP Daniel https://indico.ph.qmul.ac.uk/indico/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=446 DT https://www.brighttalk.com/webcast/663/352635 Brian https://indico.cern.ch/event/759388/contributions/3322830/attachments/1815462/2968778/StorageEvolutionJLAB.pdf BD Matt Thanks Brian!
