Attending: Jens (chair+mins), Matt, Sam, Dan, Teng, Winnie, Govind, Rob 0. Operational blog posts 1. We really need to finally finalise the final finality of the agenda for our slot. Like sort out which speakers are attending etc. Hopefully everyone who's going should be signed up by now. However, people who are not going can (should) still contribute. 2. Summary and impressions and pics from yesterweek's data centre world This is the DCW which co-hosts with Cloud Security and IoT world in London's Excel exhibition centre (actually it's owned by Dubai but it's located in London.) Curiously there was a lot about the "bricks and mortar" of the data centre, but less about the innards. The last few years had had servers and whatnot, but this year it was more about power, UPS, containerised UPS, transformers, cooling, cabling, security (and keeping rats out, both the rattus and the homo genus, although the deterrent was different). For example, one vendor sells caged racks aiming to keep unauthorised fingers away from machines which may be helpful if you have a machine room with more people accessing it, or for regulatory compliance. A few other vendors were there to run your data centre for you e.g. if your data centre is (co)located elsewhere or if your data centre is small enough you don't have the expertise in house. They liked colourful and tidy cabling. At least four different stands had scalextric-ish race tracks. 3. AOB Sam and Matt will be away next week. Do we need a call next week, given that we will be meeting in the following week? Let's see. OTOH, if Brian's back from Naples we can hear about that.
