Bristol - Luke is on strike; Winnie's done what she could given limited time and no knowledge about HDFS.

1. Reports from last week's meetings -

Brian reported from the LHCOPN.  RAL to be added to LHCONE; Imperial already added.  Implications for GridPP are that data can copy more directly
T1-T1 instead of routing via CERN or going through NRENs, estimated to shave some 12-25% off the RTT.  Recommending Jumbo frames, and MTU discovery
- (which will be required for IPv6 anyway).  Needs configuring at WAN-LAN-Machine : e.g. routing ultimately boils down to the machines routing table.
When we register transfers in FTS, we just give it the endpoints, not how to route between the endpoints.

Also storage at DTNs, at least for caching

ESNET experimented with machine to machine transfers, aiming for 400 Gb/s disk to disk.  They got "only" 378Gb/s memory to memory.  Suspecting CPU bound
network stacks.

Meanwhile ESNET have 400Gb/s to CERN, FNAL getting 3rd 100Gb/s link.


Jens talked about the UKT0 type meeting with StackHPC OpenStackers last week, which also looked at using EGI CheckIn for authenticating users, as not
all users will be able to use certificates.  UKT0 will be providing HTC (GridPP), HPC (DiRAC), SC (ARCHER), and EGI could provide federated cloud; the
hybrid scenarios were considered important at the Cloud for science workshop at Crick in January.

David reports that also the authorisation wg in WLCG has been looking at CheckIn and Indigo IAM. 

2. Any updates on CERN data lake and/or EOS?

Initially this just looked at linking the data infrastructures - RAL also providing resources, but will provide OpenStack infrastructure so the CERN
DataLake folks can deploy EOS for DataLake...!  Currently has both CERN data centres, INFN, and expecting to branch out to SurfSARA, RAL, and Melbourne;
the latter will also have CTA.
