Attending: Brian, Daniel, Govind, John B, John H, Luke, Marcus, Winnie, Sam, Steve, Jens (chair+mins), Matt, Raul, Kashif 0. Operational blog posts No operational issues reported. Reminder (once again) to people to blog when they do something interesting. 1. Sam's DPM singalong request Raul and Marcus responded to the initial call for feedback. * Policy, thought on how to move forward. * Experience on upgrading: - YAIM->Puppet experince - running beta releases, going from today's 1.8.X to tomorrow's 1.9.Y, with DOME (backend for HTTP) - Also CentOS support (SL5 likely to get dropped eventually, Sam will check) - The nature and causes of quota tokens - how and why they are different from space tokens - migrating from STs to QTs. How would DPM's implementation of this affect StoRM and dCache in terms of expected semantics of APIs etc. Some information at pre-GDB but no clarity as yet. 2. Coming events - CHEP and whatsit and the other thing Alastair was asked - by Oliver - to provide input to the WLCG workshop on a list of topics (see link below). It would be useful to provide input. Also Sam's poster needs to be posterised for posterity, so comments/feedback may be useful. Let's review next week. Lydia will be presenting a presentation at the JISC event in October. Also here we could offer to offer some input. 3. Data node writeup Curiously, a data node writeup finds its way to us from NZ; it is using GridFTP to iRODS but shares the same evolution as Lydia's DiRAC writeup. It was suggested that we put all the technical stuff together for an OGF document (because GridFTP is an OGF protocol), and then we can look at publishing a more generally readable version in conference proceedings or a journal. Volunteers who are willing and able to contribute should volunteer. http://technical.bestgrid.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Data_Transfer_Node 4. AOB NOB Matt Doidge: (28/09/2016 10:07:27) IIRC centOS7 support "ends" SL5 support for DPM? Daniel Peter Traynor: (10:09 AM) for lustre I chose not to inforce quotas as there is a overhead (~5%) in perfromance when quotas are enabled Matt Doidge: (10:09 AM) Thanks Sam - some form of deadline would be nice. Daniel Peter Traynor: (10:10 AM) is there an overhead in dpm? https://www.jisc.ac.uk/events/campus-network-engineering-for-data-intensive-science-workshop-19-oct-2016 good to get your campus network / central IT research support (if it exisits) to go to this meeting Jens: (10:25 AM) https://indico.cern.ch/event/555063/sessions/207257/ Daniel Peter Traynor: (10:31 AM) I think Terry Froy will also give a talk Marcus Ebert: (10:39 AM) Is the existing irods writeup available to look at? Jens: (10:40 AM) I will send the URLaround, Marcus
