Attending: Brian, David (GLA), Gareth, Jens (C+M), John B, John H, Raul, Sam, Steve, Adam, Jeremy, Duncan, David (IC), Ewan, Matt, Elena Apologies: Wahid 0. Operational blog posts? Ewan wrote a blog post. Yay. Govind's ongoing problems at RHUL: Sam raised with dpm-dev, both Fabrizio and David Smith followed up. Could maybe be worked out via the magic of remote login (next week, if not solved sooner). Govind tried lots of stuff; strace may help. Daemons on pool nodes do not have permissions, and it is not SELinux. Doesn't seem to be a certificate problem either? Brunel DPM ongoing problems, a slowdown over time. CMS experienced the problem; ATLAS are using other sites with the same version of DPM but are not seeing the same problem at other sites. Raul is running the memcache plugin - in production - as a means of gleaning more information. It might be worth trying to replicate this somewhere but this isn't feasible at the moment - maybe Wahid, when he gets back from his hols. 1. Review of the information in the wiki. (again) So the most important toplevel storage documents seem to be: * https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/Grid_Storage [KeyDoc] * https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/Storage/SpaceTokens * https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/Links_Monitoring_pages * https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/New_VO_deployment At least the latter on new VO deployment ought to be a KeyDoc as well in our opinion. Process is to add the Keydoc magic at the bottom of the page and then let Andrew know. The KeyDoc summary page (link in chat) is now working again and nagging people; however, people still don't seem to update their pages. Obviously, there are also pages on DPM and dCache and StoRM and stuff which are important. 2. Questions for the experiments? If we can follow up on our Cunning Plan. to ask experiments for feedback on storage at GridPP33, we should ask them specific questions, like we discussed briefly last week. - future plans for storage in GridPP - technical aims: more xroot, more cloud, less SRM, less xroot, more http - need for interoperation - changes in data models Maybe some of these things are good questions for all VOs. So we should avoid duplicating information already informed at the WLCG workshop: http://indico.cern.ch/event/305362/ but there may be GridPP-specific perspectives. Other suggested questions were: - what are the limitations of xroot and of remote access - scaling, will stuff scale for run 2 (we know some experiments think it will) - would you be interested in a non-SRM SE? - and if yes, when do you think you would be able to use one? - are you getting the right kind of support from the storage group 3. The other stuff: note that there are also other storage-related activities, some of which appear on the agenda of GridPP33. EGI, the project some time known as EUT0. There is a CEPH slot. This is all good. What about the "cloud activity" - we haven't done much on storage cloud except in the context of EGI. James requested a co-conspirator for his CEPH talk. Sam will follow up with James. It was suggested that having an introductory, er, introduction to CEPH would be useful for many people present at the meeting. 4. AOB - Jeremy requested feedback and ideas on efficiency of operations across WLCG (see link in chat). ATLAS and CMS already contributed. - Ewan notes that his blog post on Argus results suggest that it is straightforward - with the one exception if you have IPv6 and no IPv4 route to the cluster. raul: (13/08/2014 10:07:45) mic not working gridftp seems to be a problem restart seemed to do restore it yet, it only failed for tests from IC phedex No. A nother coinference parallel computing stuff yes. it seems fast but unstble https://indico.cern.ch/event/334630/contribution/1/material/slides/0.jpeg intesting link from CMs we just failed tests from cms debug we didn't fail any production we're doing quite well in cmss AAA tests Jeremy Coles: (10:13 AM) Raul - your link is restricted. "The access to this page has been restricted by its owner and you are not authorised to view it" raul: (10:13 AM) Wahid installed it before going on holiday, i think Ewan Mac Mahon: (10:16 AM) I nominate Wahid. Jens: (10:16 AM) https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/Grid_Storage Jeremy Coles: (10:16 AM) https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/php/KeyDocs.php?sort=area David Colling: (10:21 AM) THey brought an echo as well! raul: (10:29 AM) CMS is doing stress testing with external access via xroot Ewan Mac Mahon: (10:35 AM) maybe you could present the dmlite plugin? :-P Jeremy Coles: (10:37 AM) For AOB: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/WLCGOperationCosts there is a section on storage. Input welcome. Ewan Mac Mahon: (10:39 AM) And there will be a test later.
