Attending: Chris, Elena, Gareth, Jens (c+m), Jeremy, John B, John H, Steve, Adam, Sam, Brian, Raja, Raul. Apologies: Wahid 0. Operational blog issue posts Chris has done something interesting! Hooray! (Not implying that Chris doesn't normally do interesting things but rather suggesting less evidence of interesting things from others...) How visible are the blog posts? Of course you would get more readers with good quality content, and if they know where to find it. Page views tend to be both aggregators and on the blog home page. Blog items tend to drop off the front page; the planet aggregator keeps them around but we are being outblogged by our friends at the SSI. 1. Summary of feedback from last week's poll - only three responses received so far. Others will be responding - see chat. Generally format is considered OK; also OK to run over provided the discussion is interesting and useful. Suggestion to have more technical discussions or presentations of technical topics. 2. Updates on ongoing stuff or potentially interesting stuff: - WebFTS testing - still waiting for the RAL instance. The idea was that it could replace or supplement GO as a friendly user interface tool. With FTS people show up in dashboard by DN which may not be appropriate. - Updating storage documentation (the wiki) and testing it Jens had been working on his keydoc; maybe we should identify other relevant storage area docs and identify the "volunteers" to bring them up to date. Age of documentation in general was discussed at the PMB last Monday, with Steve Lloyd and Tom being actioned to ponder the question. - Upgrading DPM 1.8.7s? What is the baseline? The recommended version of the minimum version? If the latter, then there should be a maximum version as well, as in some cases later versions aren't necessarily better versions, or some versions may bring in more radical changes. Two 1.8.7s need upgrading, Manchester and Sheffield. Elena has upgraded all pool nodes but is expecting to replace the head node so will be upgrading it then. - GLUE 2.0 for storage revisited? We're supposed to be publishing GLUE 2 since - well, a long time, and it might be worth revisiting What happened to the accounting records? Jens will investigate. - IPv6 IPv6 is on the agenda for the GridPP meeeting: is there sufficient input? Pete Clarke requested input. Speaking of the agenda, we are suggesting that if experiments have their own sessions - like one for CMS, ATLAS, LHCb etc., that we ask them to feed back on the storage and data management as well: after all, it's from the horse's mouth. Coming from the experiments, feedback on storage will carry more weight than if we stood up and said what we thought. - WebDAV 3. On a slightly not-only-storage related topic I could say a few words about the future of providing host certificates Jens outlined the proposal for JANET eventually taking over the role of issuing certificates for the UK in general and GridPP in particular. STFC and JANET are working together on this and will ensure that grid certificates can continue also with the new service. 4. August - a great time to do some Real Work(tm): could we usefully do something Interesting®, perhaps in collaboration. There was a suggestion whether some interesting thing could be done in August as it is supposed to be a traditionally quiet period: Chris requested a synchronisation tool which would iterate over a catalogue. Sam suggests that a version may be appear in DIRAC. Given the feedback on the meeting contents, we also asked if anyone would be interested and willing and able to give a technical talk. 5. AOB Brian asked if there were any problems with VOMS certificate (or what they are called these days, metadata files) upgrade. Steve has a doc which he (Steve) will update. Jens: (30/07/2014 10:03:53) http://gridpp-storage.blogspot.com/2014/07/ipv6-and-xrootd-4.html Christopher John Walker: (10:12 AM) I've filled it in now. Feedback is much the same as everybody else Elena Korolkova: (10:21 AM) is there a link to the survey? Jens: (10:21 AM) It's like the old joke: "it said install Windows 95 or better so I installed Linux" Survey here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NNg4mjb7pscWernLkJ5UNVTVmeA7AI7C-i-FjvhFcO0/edit Jeremy Coles: (10:25 AM) https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/WLCGBaselineVersions https://indico.cern.ch/event/321806// Jens: (10:38 AM) https://indico.cern.ch/event/321806// Govind : (10:44 AM) how about host certificates
