Attending: Chris, David, Elena, Gareth, John B, John H, Matt, Rob, Robert, Sam, Steve, Wahid, Govind Apologies: Brian 0. Blog posts. Wahid thinks it should be "operational issues" :-) Which it should, of course; it would be useful not to have blog posts on the agenda (as in "not to have to have") 1. The ATLAS empty subdirectories: seem to be created by Rucio in its eagerness to do something, then not populated with stuff. This is a problem if you aim to keep your metadata in memory, it slows down syncat, and it creates the extra entries in CASTOR. Doesn't seem to be a huge problem for DPM though. There was a suggestion for federated Xroot presented in an, er, presentation which Jens unhelpfully had forgotten to provide a link to, so let's postpone this discussion. 2. Upgrade experiences: Sam's wasn't smooth but his upgrade path was sufficiently convoluted to perhaps suggest complications might arise (but in the interest of scientific curiosity nevertheless worth pursuing with dogged persistence...) About half the sites have currently upgraded, and given that this is a relatively significant one, would be worth having it as a milestone for reporting purposes - would tie into the next QR. Say end of Nov? It is worth doing alone for the improved support for WebDAV (and xroot). Elena reported slow drains on an upgraded DPM. Ewan suggested it may be due to changing internal authentication - having certificate-secured RFIO between the nodes will be replaced with shared secret, thus speeding up the internode communication. 3. Workshop is all day 13th Dec.; people should make their own accommodation arrangements (and travel). Should be open to the entire DPM "community" and should be able to accommodate ~50 people. Lunch will be provided... 4. As regards CHEP, Sam, Wahid, everyone from Liverpool, and Chris are going, some presenting posters or other stuff. There are some potentially interesting things which we might want to hear reports about, but people should of course go to stuff they are themselves interested in, but if you find yourself in a useful session it may be useful to have a few lines of notes... Jens will send some suggestions to the list. 5. AOB Although some people will be at CHEP next week, there should be enough of us around for a quick catch up next Wednesday, in the usual slot. [10:00:32] Wahid Bhimji hi [10:00:49] Wahid Bhimji the GDB talk is on DM clients now [10:00:57] Wahid Bhimji gfal2 etc. so I am listening to both [10:08:51] Ewan Mac Mahon I think at this point the capabilities of SRM are less of a concern than the capabilities of webdav. [10:10:34] Elena Korolkova Should we send email to dq2 developers or open savannah for this? [10:11:06] Wahid Bhimji what is your question elena [10:11:40] Elena Korolkova I mean does atlas dq2 developers know the problem [10:11:43] Wahid Bhimji I am discussing in some places this with atlas [10:12:07] Wahid Bhimji Alasatiar must have mentioned it tothe rucio guys [10:12:26] Elena Korolkova My point was to open savannah then it could be discussed openly and we'll hve tracks of the discussion [10:12:34] Wahid Bhimji If you want [10:12:57] Elena Korolkova ok. I'll discuss this with Alastair [10:13:26] Wahid Bhimji We are involved in the ATLAS FAX fedeartion stuff - not sure what specific issue you are referring to on xrootd federation [10:14:06] Elena Korolkova Are you asking me, Wahid? [10:14:29] Elena Korolkova I was reffering to webDav [10:15:23] Ewan Mac Mahon You could blog about it [10:16:00] Christopher Walker https://www.gridpp.ac.uk/wiki/WebDAV [10:16:11] Matt Doidge I hope to do it soon (tm). [10:16:52] Sam Skipsey I actually had two blog entries I wanted to write, but then discovered that blogspot only lets you use your "default" Google account to log in (and my default was my personal one not my grid one) [10:17:10] Wahid Bhimji I haven't tried - but your feedback is interesting [10:17:23] Wahid Bhimji send what you see to the user forum and maybe there is a reason [10:21:57] Wahid Bhimji sorry - also listening to the DM clients [10:22:00] Wahid Bhimji I am of coruse going [10:22:43] Wahid Bhimji I have a hepdoop poster.
