John B, Gareth, John H, Matt, Sam, Ewan, Jens, Robert, Govind, Stephen, Duncan, Elena, Mark, Alessandra, Chris Apologies : Wahid DMLite - pushing a version on SL6. Configuration based on cobbler and puppet. Gareth - cobbler - baremetal OS provisioning. Steve Traylen was looking at another tool, Foreman (www.foreman.org) Version publishing is fixed in 1.8.4. Information systems - comparing data to what we publish StoRM calls GPFS but doesn't call Lustre, so needs resynchronising using 'du'. du the first time took about 24 hours but subsequent calls are a lot quicker. At RHUL, negative numbers were caused by a filesystem loss - dpm-listspaces gets confused. Michel is still the maintainer. Anything on information systems? lcg-infosites and query. Other things for hepsysman - collaborating on using puppet (sharing puppet config) - may need some localisations. Sharing is good... GlobusOnline - is it useful - only supports GridFTP endpoints. vbrowser would be a useful thing to "upload to the grid" DPM classic SE lets you write stuff on the head node... lets you write into the DPM namespace. And into the DPM head node. Cf. the "classic SE" option - a security risk because a GridFTP server can talk to anything. GO is very pretty but doesn't do the scheduling that we get with FTS. FTS3 does 90%, still needs registration in the catalogue. We could support globus online... but for now we should just play with it. HTTP and WebDAV are also useful, of course. If we can recommend something for "small" VOs that would be useful. [10:01:39] Ewan Mac Mahon joined [10:03:33] Robert Frank joined [10:03:56] Ewan Mac Mahon It sounded OK from here I think. [10:30:04] Ewan Mac Mahon We may or may not actually have any of those though. [10:30:12] Jens Jensen Quite right, thanks [10:30:41] Alessandra Forti the same you can say for any software/script [10:30:43] Ewan Mac Mahon I should note that Ox doesn't use puppet yet either, we're in the same place as QMUL. [10:30:50] Ewan Mac Mahon And yes, it's worth trying. [10:31:16] Matt Doidge Indeed, we'll be up for hearing more too [10:31:17] Jens Jensen And you can perhaps get some feedback on you r puppet stuff [10:31:21] Ewan Mac Mahon Even as worked examples for educational purposes it would be good, even for things that aren't directly re-usable. [10:31:46] Matt Doidge I always like "Here's this cool thing we did" talks [10:32:47] Ewan Mac Mahon Would globus-online work with the recently discussed DPM 'classic SE' interface? [10:35:01] Ewan Mac Mahon Globus Online isn't going to help you get stuff off a non-grid storage since really anything with a gridftp server _is_ grid storage [10:35:22] Ewan Mac Mahon Well, you can do that now on any machine with a gridftp server; we just quietly ignore that. [10:35:35] Ewan Mac Mahon But you can use it right now to nuke most kinds of service nodes. [10:35:58] Sam Skipsey Indeed. [10:36:09] Ewan Mac Mahon Plus you need (I would think) coherent authentication between your endpoints [10:36:22] Ewan Mac Mahon Well, that's got to be against the AUPs, surely. [10:36:33] Ewan Mac Mahon Password disclosure? Just say no. [10:37:21] Ewan Mac Mahon What's the difference between globus online and FTS3 ? [10:37:51] Ewan Mac Mahon Given that globus online doesn't upload, it transfers between grid node and other grid node. [10:37:52] Jens Jensen SThere is no scheduling in GO [10:38:01] Ewan Mac Mahon That's not an advantage. [10:38:06] Jens Jensen Indeed [10:38:16] Jens Jensen But it does do upload, pretty sure [10:38:23] Ewan Mac Mahon XXXX XXXXXX XX X XXXX. [10:39:08] Alessandra Forti XXXX XX X XXX XXX XXXXX XXXXX XXX XXXX [10:39:08] Ewan Mac Mahon XX'X XXX XXXXX XXXX pretty guis are good though, but you need decent infrastructure with a pretty gui on top. [10:40:08] Jens Jensen I'll leave that out of the minutes X XX XX XXXX XX XXX XXXX XXXX [10:40:22] Ewan Mac Mahon (X XXXXXX XXXX XXXX 'XXXX' XX XXXXXX, XXX XX XXXX XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX, XXXXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXX XXXX XXXX XXXXX XX XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXX) [10:41:27] Sam Skipsey I think what I was trying to get at is: are the people who want Globus Online wanting it just because people have told them that it is good? [10:41:41] Alessandra Forti good to know [10:42:06] Jens Jensen Because they've tried GO and it worked well for them - in fact getting them a certificate in the first place is half the battle won (sort of) [10:43:08] Ewan Mac Mahon So; Chris is little VOs person, should he be looking into this? [10:43:26] Sam Skipsey On the other hand, wouldn't it be easier just to offer a WebDAV service [10:44:05] Ewan Mac Mahon I don't know Sam, how easy is it to offer a WebDav service? [10:44:18] Ewan Mac Mahon Are there instructions somewhere? [10:44:36] Duncan Rand left [10:44:40] Sam Skipsey yum update dpm ; service dpm-https start [10:44:44] Sam Skipsey cheers. [10:44:48] Ewan Mac Mahon [10:44:57] Ewan Mac Mahon Really?! That's it now? [10:45:18] Sam Skipsey Well, not quite. You probably need to run yaim.
