26th Jan Storage Group Minutes 0. very quick action review (see below) 426/427 still open , 428 (done see item 1) , 429 - unknown, 425/ 430 Jens checked publishing after meeting (see the list). Chris plans to deploy in production if possible before data taking resumes. Some other sites have seen some problems with StoRM 1.6. 1. StorageWorkshop@GridPP survey Please fill in Jens's survey for topics: https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/surveys.cgi?LMGT1=GRIDPP-STORAGE Friday is deadline People are encouraged to fill in the free text boxes if they want something other than what is available to tick. The workshop is on the Thurday after gridpp26 (ie 31 March). 2.DPM versions Baseline recomendations are 1.7.4-7 and 1.8.0 (which is just out for SL5). All uk sites are at least 1.7.2 - there are no critical requirement for updating but some useful features (e.g. auto-pruning of database) that may make it worthwhile. A move to 1.7.4 should be painless. If sites want to upgrade before end-march / data taking is best. 1.8 involves a schema change. It is a quick one. However as 1.8.0 is not widely tested in production we do recomend moving (but sam/wahid will do (or have)). Wahid has 1.8.0 for SL4 he has observed a memory leak (probably in VOMS). There is not a massive appetite from developers to fix it (given it is the last glite 3.1/ SL4 version). He asked if anyone in the group wanted 1.8 for SL4- noone replied. He will continue pushing the developers but it may not get fixed so 1.7.4-7 will be fine for what SL4 sites remain (except ECDF that will probably stick it out with 1.8 until going to SL5). 1.7.4-6 has the memory leak so sites ought to use the 1.7.4-7 (which is what they will get if they update now - but if they did it before they should check (but probably would have noticed as its a big leak)). 3. DPM toolkit Version 2.6.7 has been out since december - there are some useful new tools (such as pfn to surl) and bug fixes so worth upgrading. http://www.sysadmin.hep.ac.uk/rpms/fabric-management/RPMS.storage/ There are different versions for DPM173 (and before) and 174 (and later). There will not need to be a new one build for 1.8 (the 174 one will work) 4. Atlas MC/DATADISK Atlas have moved data from DATA to MC. Sites should not have more in there than there are files (or 5TB). Atlas is clearing the remaining data in MCDISK. Soon you will be able to get rid of MCDISK. Chris asked about whether he could return a failure if someone tried to write in as atlas but not in a spacetoken. (This may have been under his 1.6 testing item). There was a discussion and basically we thought he probably should but should get confirmation from someone official (he since has (of sorts) (from Graeme (in uk atlas ops mtg))). 5. "hardware scaling issues for disk servers at Tier-2s" Brian/ Sam and Wahid have been discussing this following request from dteam. (Specifically what network sites should provide for a certain level of storage) Brian will circulate something to the group. 6. GDB from 2 weeks ago - review of "demonstrators". Brian's talk generated some interest. All those that are on track are on track. Many are being persued within experiments (eg Panda Dynamic placement and xrootd which is being presued by both CMS and Atlas). NFS4 is however a more pan-experiment item. 426 19/01/2011 Send Areca stuff to Sam Matt High Open 427 19/01/2011 Send Areca stuff to Sam Ewan High Open 428 19/01/2011 Create a survey for agenda for storage at GridPP26 Jens,Wahid High Open 429 19/01/2011 Contact Sanger about storage (Lustre workshop and GridPP) Jens Med Open 430 19/01/2011 Test the rest of Chris's StoRM (cf 425) ALL Med Open 425 05/01/2011 Check Chris' test SE (se04) info published Jens/ALL Med Open 401 02/06/2010 Clean up the wiki ALL Low Open Chat window [09:58:31] Queen Mary, U London London, U.K. joined [09:58:53] Elena Korolkova joined [09:59:00] John Bland joined [09:59:54] Stephen Jones joined [10:01:51] Winnie Lacesso joined [10:04:24] Govind Songara joined [10:04:27] Brian Davies joined [10:04:57] Alessandra Forti joined [10:05:06] Brian Davies apologies for my tardiness [10:06:28] Matthew Doidge joined [10:11:20] Elena Korolkova How is better to reserve space for t2k, for example?
