Minutes of the storage EVO meeting 24 Nov 2010 Attending: Glasgow: Sam, David Edinburgh: Wahid Manchester: Alessandra Lancaster: Matt Bristol: Winnie Sheffield: Elena Liverpool: Stephen QMUL: Chris RAL T1: Brian, James, Jens (chair+mins) 0. Feedback from the NGS IF (possibly), currently ongoing Some NGS activities on clouds - Walrus is the cloud infrastructure associated with Eucalyptus, there is also a project called Kindura building cloudy interfaces for iRODS. 0.5. Any ATLAS space token updates between now and the end of the year? Brian doesn't think there will be any new (or deleted) space tokens, but there may still be changes to the capacities of them. Brian should check (ACTION), so we can have them implemented before the end of the year, partly to ensure that we get them done before people go on leave at the end of December, and partly to ensure the metric for the next quarterly will be 100% :-) 1. DPM roadmap (and EGI storage roadmap) - and our DPM contributions. NFS promoted as local file access protocol (over xroot); WebDAV use cases being requested. MICE probably have a use case; also a Glasgow local VO. Of which speaking, what happened to the experiment input output from GridPP25? Sam has some notes, will send to Jens. Curiously, we didn't seem to write anything up post GridPP25. There were some talk about performance, perhaps we can contribute numbers. Also, our work on monitoring and catalogue synchronisation may be relevant (although the type of catalogue synchronisation they're talking about is rather "sexier," building on event notification rather than a tool doing the checking.) 2. Anything storagey from hepsysman? CVMFS presented by Ian Collier (T1) and our very own Chris W (T2). Considered recommended for T3s, and for T2s as well unless you have something that works already, in which case switching does not make sense. Chris noted that certain LHCb access patterns would toast his metadata server with Lustre, but he did not see the same issues with CVMFS. Also maintenance/updates effort with CVMFS is very low (hence the recommendation for T3s and others.) 3. (Quick) Review of tasklist - see if we can get it done this time! https://savannah.cern.ch/task/?group=srmsupportuk Finally done, at the expense of running late(r than usual). Jens will update the tasklist. 4. Lustre discussion Mostly covered earlier - but we will raise it again next week and get Jeremy to join and talk about his experiences with Dell. 5.
