Minutes of the storage EVO meeting, 18 Aug 2010 Present: Glasgow: Sam, David Edinburgh: Wahid Liverpool: John, Stephen Bristol: Winnie QMUL: Chris W Lancaster: Matt Manchester: Alessandra RAL: Brian, James, Jens (chair+mins) *** Don't forget the tasklist on *** https://savannah.cern.ch/projects/srmsupportuk/ 1. Items for the Ambleside agenda Overview of what is planned for "our" session (session 2, not 5): Exp't feedback Workshop/Jamboree summary Issues/Roadmap Discussion Dave altered the timings somewhat, extending the discussion session, but that should be OK. Experiments have been asked the questions: - interaction with this group (do they know we exist :-) - services we should provide (eg syncat) - are they happy with the middleware? - differences from std gLite but they have been extremely slow to respond. Jens asked ATLAS, CMS, UKQCD, ILC, Minos, Pheno, H1, and, separately T2K and MICE. Will ask LHCb (action). Even LHC experiments do not seem to have individual slots in this programme, so asking them to present becomes increasingly important. As experiments are expected to - and sometimes do - interact with their local storage gurus, we can provide some experiment feedback in case the experiments don't. Of course, ideally they provide the input; if not, we can suggest input and have them approve it, or maybe just provide the site view in the worst case. The LHC experiments are usually well represented, and will certainly be represented in Sam's presentation, but we should ask them anyway. Apart from this, who has worked with whom? Matt - T2K, CAMONT Chris - T2K, SuperB Sam+David - MICE, UKQCD Wahid - UKQCD/ILDG, biomed Winnie - ILC (see chat) Alessandra - biomed (see chat) John+Stephen - T2K Jens - MICE, T2K. Also Minos (long time ago) Brian - Minos (long time ago) So we can provide some feedback if they don't, as follows: CAMONT - Matt T2K - Chris SuperB - Chris MICE - Sam and Jens UKQCD - Wahid Biomed - Wahid (if there is anything to report, can't expect response) ILC - Winnie? Probably not much to report. Issue is often getting them started on the grid. We could do a case study. Often we (the group) provide expertise to them. Generally they are using gLite, but we should note if they need anything else in which case other components could be reused. In general, these are the "services" we can potentially offer the experiments: * Expertise * Help getting started (with the storage and data management) * Syncat * Integrity checking 2. Alessandra had updated a task! (the one on ext4 evaluation) with references to the relevant discussions on the list. The Lancaster syncat exercise is now closed - everything the LFC thought should be at Lancaster is at Lancaster; there is data at Lancaster which is "intentionally dark" ie in SE but not in catalogue, eg early test data etc. Sam is clarifying with Ben what to do with this data, if anything. This could (should) be presented as part of the T2K feedback next week, so Sam will send info to Chris. 3. AOB Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Ambleside next week. Of course there will be no meeting next Wednesday... == NEW ACTIONS == 407 Volunteer feedback from LHCb - Jens (HIGH) 408 Forward Syncat results to Chris - Sam (HIGH) 409 Provide CAMONT feedback - Matt (Medium) (if CAMONT don't) 410 T2K - Chris (Medium) (if T2K don't (etc)) 411 SuperB - Chris (Medium) 412 MICE - Sam and Jens (Medium) 413 UKQCD - Wahid (Medium) 414 Biomed - Wahid (LOW priority) 415 ILC - Winnie?
